Many critiques of Western human rights focus on their omission of duties. However, the intent of these documents was not to address duties, which does not imply their denial. These texts do not offer a comprehensive philosophical system; rather, they are a “minimalist literature.” The goal is to establish a minimum standard so that no society can evade its fundamental responsibilities.
