The Pains, Calamities and Misfortunes of Life; a Warning from God

“According to Shiite hadiths, the pains, calamities and misfortunes of life can be interpreted as a warning from God for our awakening.”
 According to the public relations of Baqir al-Olum University, the first webinar of the series of international webinar of Islamic studies on “Corona Theology” was held by the Office of scientific cooperation and international affairs of Baqir al-Olum University in cooperation with the Islamic Culture and Communication Organization.

In this webinar, which was attended by professors and students of European universities, Iranian professors and students, cultural advisors of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Europe, some officials of Islamic Culture and Communication Organization and director of the office of scientific cooperation and international affairs of Baqir al-Olum University, Dr. Seyed Mahmoud Mousavi; the associate professor and director of the department of philosophy and theology, Baqir al-Olum University gave a lecture. 

Dr. Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi evaluated the belief in the book of God (Quran) as well as the book of creation in increasing the understanding of these two important books and expressed: In interpreting the corona virus, one should not be satisfied only with the Quran and narration But this phenomenon should be interpreted and justified by adopting an appropriate philosophical approach. He also considered the intellect as a reliable tool in interpreting and understanding the word of God and emphasized the capacity of this tool to develop human understanding of this phenomenon and God’s relationship with man.

In another part of his speech, the university professor referred to the help and sacrifices of Iranian Muslims to patients and their families during the difficult days of Corona and continued: “People did their best to solve the problems and consequences of this virus.  They bent over backwards to fulfill their duty in this way.

Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi also said: “According to Shiite hadiths, the pains, calamities and misfortunes of life – under the name of the corona virus or any other title – can be interpreted as a warning from God for our awakening.” In other words, we are reminded that man is not merely the body and should not let material things win his heart.

At the end, some questions were raised by the participants and Dr. Mousavi answered them.
